BRANDS OF PIETY? Islamic Commodification of Polygamous Community in Indonesia

The interrelation between the Islamic faith and consumerism has evoked abundant of religious expressions among Indonesian Muslims as well identity contests public piety. Despite fact that is irrelevant to many developed countries shifted into post-consumerism culture, are keen on practicing in every aspect life, including practices. This article discusses commodification aspects within practice polygamy urban Muslims, especially trend polygamous marriage promoted online media . It through virtual ethnography methods two distinctive groups, namely Forum Poligami Indonesia (Indonesian Polygamy Forum) Rabbanian Family , data were gathered. We propose become commodified like any other economic objects due freedom expression brought about by democratic atmosphere development media. Moreover, rise popular Islam conservative tendency, expressed middle-class Indonesia, a strong indication such practice.
